We always hear this word - freelancing, but only a few know what it takes to do freelancing. So, what is freelancing? Is it something that you can try?

What is Freelancing?

Freelancing means doing particular pieces of work for different organizations rather than working all the time for a single organization. People who are freelancing are called "freelancers". They are self-employed and often considered an independent contractor.

Companies would hire freelancers to provide a specific task on a part-time or short-term basis. The compensation is different from a full-time employee. Usually, the fee is charged per hour or per project. That means more projects more income.

With the rise of digital platforms and people are more driven to browse the internet than reading articles in newspapers, businesses are urged to focus more on digital marketing. The need for freelancers with knowledge on digital platforms has skyrocketed as well.

Can I Try it?

Of course. Everyone has an equal chance to try it. But you need to do the following.

First, you must equip yourself with digital skills. The internet has a wide array of resources. Tutorials on a specific platform are readily available. You can also enroll in a paid "freelancing course" so you can work with a coach and get a certificate after completion. I would highly recommend Filipino Virtual Assistance Academy because of its tons of courses offered. I am a graduate of one of their courses and my coach is Kathy Cabradilla. I had a great experience, I learned many digital skills and my coach lent a helping hand whenever I needed it.

Second, build your resume and portfolios. Show your creativity and apply for jobs in any freelance websites.

Third, be patient and pray. Remember that everything has its perfect timing. It says, "A person who is a master of patience, is a master of everything else".

Fourth, continue to sharpen your skills by creating more portfolios. Bear in mind that practice makes perfect.

Fifth, believe in yourself. You can do something better as long as you open yourself to new opportunities. Have faith in your skills, capabilities, talents. It will bring you towards becoming your dreams a reality.

Come on, do not be afraid to go out of your comfort zones. There are many job opportunities online that await you. A dream does not become a reality overnight, it takes sweat, determination, and hard work. Before you say "No!", so why not give it a try.
